Pakistanis celebrates I-day with national zeal and fervour - By: Syed Mussarat Khalil

Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia celebrated the 70th Anniversary of Independence with national zeal and fervour.

Pakistan's Ambassador to the Kingdom Khan Hisham bin Siddique raised the Pakistani flag at a ceremony to mark the day at Pakistan Embassy at Riyadh.

On the other hand, similar flag raising ceremony was held at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah where Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan raised the Pakistani flag, to mark the day, in front of large number of Pakistani community who had arrived from different part of Jeddah to participate in the event.

National Anthem was played while the National Flag was being raised. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy was also present at the occasion.

image Later addressing the gathering, the Consul General said that this day is a reminder of the heroic struggle undertaken by the Muslims of the Sub-continent under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for a separate homeland where they could live their lives with freedom and dignity. It is my firm belief that with honesty of purpose and single-minded devotion to the national cause we are bound to succeed in our mission of elevating Pakistan to its rightful place in the comity of nations, he added.

The Consul General appreciated the role of Pakistani community in development of Pakistan as well as Saudi Arabia. He said that our community is true representatives of Pakistan and they have earned a good name for themselves as well as Pakistan through their hard work. They act as a bridge of friendship between the two brotherly countries, he added. He gave example of Shah Farman who saved lives of about 14 persons in flood before his martyrdom.

The Consul general also thanked His Royal Majesty King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and the Saudi Government for hosting a large number of Pakistani community and providing them opportunity to play their constructive role in development of both te he countries.

Earlier the proceeding started with the recitation of Holy Qu'ran by Qari Mohammed Asif.

Eminent poet Dr. Naeem Hamid Ali Al-Hamid presented national poem. Saeed Sarwar Head of Chancery read out the message of Mamnoon Hussain President of Pakistan and Shaiq Bhutto (Consul) read out the message of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Prime Minister of Pakistan for the occasion.

Famous Pakistani calligrapher Mohammed Azam presented his unique sketches of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah the father of nation to Consul General.

The Consul General, surrounded by children clad in Pakistani dresses and holding Pakistani flags, cut the Cake to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Pakistan. Pakistani children also sang National songs which enthralled the audience.
