Greetings and Best wishes for the New Year - BY: Akram Zaki

Dear Friends,

Greetings and best wishes to all friends and their families for the Dawn of New Year 2017. It has become customary to make new resolutions which are soon forgotten. Actually, 1st January is not much different from 31st December. It is a convenient way of keeping record of events.

Different civilizations developed different Calendars. Ancient Iranian Civilization started the new year from March 21, when the sun moves from the Equator towards Tropic of Cancer, Old South Asian New Year under Bikrimi Calendar starts from April 13, when the wheat crops gets ready. According to the Islamic Lunar Calendar new year moves 10 or 11 days in advance every year. The Chinese New Year, which is a combination of Lunar and Solar Calendar comes between last week of January and 3rd week of February.
Even according to the Modern Georgian Calendar used extensively, in the west originally March was the first Month. The names of the last four months betray this truth. September was the 7th Month, October 8th Month, November the 9th Month and December the 10th Month, so first March was the New Year.

However any occasion should be used to pray for the well being and prosperity of friends and the Family and for peace, stability and progress for the Pakistan and the World.

I sincerely wish happy New Year to everyone on January 1, and in advance for March 1, March 21 and April 13. Regarding good wishes on the Chinese and Islamic new year, I will wait for the dates.
Best regards

Akram Zaki
