Juvelines' Suicides in light of Moral Decline and Social Upset By Munir Ahmad Khalili

Recent three incessant suicidal incidents of some very young boys in different towns of Pakistan indicate that our society is rapidly going in grip of serious psychological disorder. In the reports spread by media such sad news are coloured with approbation and appreciation as if it was not unpalatable but a heroic act of young boys.

Actually young generation in the educational institutions finds no lofty ideals and objectives of their education. Gaining high grades in exams and degrees and certificates have become main and final goal for which the students are under high pressure both by their parents and teachers. For the parents high grades of their children have become a smatter of social status. A painful constraint on the teachers by the parents and managements of their educational institutions to show high results of their subjects nervously makes them convulsed and tense.

Society is greatly confused due to lawlessness and corruption at the highest level. Only a little number of the people is there who prove to be law abiding. We are growing morally and spiritually hollow generations to shoulder important responsibilities in future. Death of principles and conscience is evident. These generations observe aversion on sectarian, racial, language basis is increasing day by day. They see a gulf between the supporters of different political parties, getting too wide to be bridged easily.

There is an ideological vacuum because the leaders have put the country on the track without any direction to move and without any destination to reach. The people are almost sold by the rulers to the slavery of big powers only for their own vested interests.

The ruling elite and upper class of the society wants to place the shackles of their wishes on the constitution, laws and courts. The lower class is always subject to deprivation. joblessness, hike in prices, power load shedding and unavailabilty of the vital ingredients of basic needs.

Young generations are essentially affected by the serious problems faced by their elders. Teachers and students and also the parents share this messy state of the society. The teachers lose their temprament on indisciplined attitude of the students and the parents because of rude behaviour of their children. Most of the high moral values are now a forgotten matter of the past.

Total incoherence of education with the moral and spiritual values has made it a matter of stomach only. It is no more a venture of man making, instead educated class is muddied with corruption and dishonesty.

The relations of respect and confidence seem breathing their last. The credit of the elders is largely lost now. In past a lot used to be in the 'balance sheet' of the 'account' of the loving feelings for the youngsters. If a little was drawn out of anger, a large ammount still remained there. Now situation is totally different. Materialism is the topmost of the criterians now. 'Give and take' is the ground of the relations.

The teachers are no more the spiritual and moral guides of the students. Most of the teachers do not feel contented on the salaries they get from their institutions. They run big tuition business and coach their students with worldly gains and the parents spend for getting their children educated for multitude of reasons. Elevated status with excellent jobs in multinational companies and getting back in multitude ways is the main purpose of the education.

Our Holy Prophet, be peace and blessings upon him, is reported to have said: "Those, who are not respectful to the elders and not compassionate to our youngsters, are not from among us." Now both the respect for the elders, particularly for the parents and teachers, and compassion for the children is a trait of less importance.

A serious condition of jittery and impatience in the social environment has made the children extraordinarily sensitive. Even a gentle reprimand by the teachers is taken by the children insult of them and they react snubbingly and harshly in reply. They are even angry on getting any admonitions and wise guidance by the teachers and parents. A light scolding in the sense of the condolence and love makes them revengful. When they are helpless in doing something against the teachers and parents they go to the extreme to take their lives by suicidal acts.
