HONOURARY FELLOWSHIP AWARD FOR YOUNG PAKISTANI SCIENTIST

Prof. Dr. Sultan Ayoub Meo was born in a village Ghogharo, Tehsil Kamber, District Larkana [Presently District Kambar Shahdadkot], from where he did primary schooling, and then he studied at Government High School Khair Pur Juso, that was 11 Kilometers away from his village. Afterwards, he was admitted to Government Degree College Larkana and had to attend the college daily coming from his far flung village about 30 Kilometers away. His career as a student has always remained first class.

Prof. Meo did MBBS from Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur in 1992. He obtained higher postgraduate Degrees [M.Phil] in Physiology in the year 1999 from Basic Medical Sciences Institute Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre, University of Karachi. He also obtained Ph.D in Physiology from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences Hamdard University, Karachi, Pakistan in 2001. In addition to achieving MBBS, M.Phil, and Ph.D, he also obtained higher postgraduate degree in Medical Education, from University of Dundee, Scotland, UK, in 2009.

Prof. Meo served the College of Medicine, Hamdard University, Karachi, at various faculty positions from 1994-2001. Prof. Meo had joined the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, King Saud University, in Dec 2001 as an Assistant Professor. Considering his outstanding academic and scientific achievements he was promoted as an Associate Professor in the same department in Oct 2004, and was further promoted to the rank of Full Professor in the same department in Oct 2008.

Prof. Meo is one of the youngest professors who achieved this rank at King Saud University, College of Medicine. King Saud University is the first highly ranked University in the Muslim world and 199 ranked University in the world.

Prof. Meo published 8 books and 50 papers in peer reviewed worthy national / International Journals and his all publications are worthy reading in medical / scientific community.

Prof. Meo is Associate Editor of International Journal of Diabetes Mellitus [published by Elsevier / Science Direct]. He is also Editorial Board member of Saudi Medical Journal.

Prof. Meo, has been invited as a guest speaker to deliver talk in about 50 National / International conferences in different countries including Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, China and USA.

Considering his academic and scientific worth, he received a highest academic title in Medicine [FRCP] Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Honorary Fellowship [FRCP] is the highest honour the College can bestow. This honour is reserved for world leaders in medical science and exceptional contributors to the welfare of communities both, nationally and internationally.

The point worthy to be discussed that achieving such a combination of academic titles MBBS, M.Phil, Postgraduate Degree in Medical Education, Ph.D, and FRCP [Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland] is rare in the history of Pakistan.
