Press Release : Govt of Mharashtra crafting fear by arresting Activists. It is a fascist act

Civil Liberties Monitoring committee strongly condemns the arrest of Adv. Surender Gadling, Genral Secreatery IAPL, Prof Shoma Sen, HOD of English at Nagpur university Sudhir Dhawle, editor vidrohi from Mumbai Rona Wilson, Secretary Committee For The Release of Political Prisoners and Mahesh Rau an anti-displacement activist from Delhi. As per the information received by the committee the Pune police today i.e 6th June 2018 arrested these activists on the basis of FIR registered on 8th January 2018 at Vishram Baug police station, pune in connection of the Elgar Parishad on 31st December, 2017 by the Bhima-Koregaon Shaurya Din Prerna Abhiyan.

This is the fact that the FIR originally registered under usual sections of Indian penal code, but suddenly it was made a conspiracy case and added draconian sections of Unlawful Activities prevention Act ( UAPA). And arrests made today is under this law which is very cruel in practice and which ensure long detention and obtaining bail under UAPA is much more difficult.

These arrests are made to subside the mass demand of several activists and the Prerna Abhiyan in particular to arrest the leaders of RSS and frontier organisations that is Sambhaji Bhide and Milind Ekbote, who were responsible for the violence on 1st January, 2018 at Bhima-Koregaon. But the Hindutva govt of Maharashtra which has been protecting the actual criminals of violence and now targeting and falsely implicating rights activists and falsely propagating that the violence at Bhima Koregaon was caused by the Elgar Parishad and that banned Maoist organizations are behind the Prerna Abhiyan.

It is a matter of fact that Bhima-Koregaon Shaurya Din Prerna Abhiyan is a coalition of mass organizations under the Chairmanship of Retired Supreme Court Justice P B Sawant . In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima-Koregaon that vanquished the Peshwa rule, the Abhiyan had organized a mass meeting on 31st December, 2017. The program was hugely successful and attended by thousands from across the state. However on the following day, those commemorating the event at Bhima-Koregaon were attacked by a mob carrying saffron flags and instigated by Sambhaji Bhide and Milind Ekbote, two right wing activists who are closely connected with the ruling BJP and this attack was pre planed and part of high level conspiracy against the Dalits.

It seems that present Maharashtra government using all fascist tactics to supress the Dalit movement and it also an attempt to make influence on judicial enquiry and develop fear in the people so that nobody can come forward to submit their suffering from hindutva elements. These arrests are clear message to Dalit and other oppressed communities not to challenge the hindutva state and the criminals of terror are under the protection of state.

Civil Liberties Monitoring committee denounce these arrests in strong possible words and terms it a fascist act and appeal to the people of India to come forward and continue their struggle and demands the release of activists Adv. Surendra Gadling, Prof Shoma Sen, Sudhir Dhawle, Rona Wilson and Mahesh Raut forthwith .
