At the moment the political statements of the various parties have taken over the scene, with each of them trying to score points over the others. It often adds up to no more than mudslinging and one fails to see why our politicians cannot learn how to behave civilly from their Western counterparts. Their job should be to criticize policies, not attack individuals, and their aim should be the betterment of society, not personal gain. Especially the Panama Case has polluted the national political atmosphere; most politicians forgetting to remember their own backgrounds, which are far from spotless. “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” The Panama Case is only the tip of the iceberg. Those who are aiming to become the next PM and who are under the illusion that this will be the ideal situation, are in for an unpleasant surprise. Enough about politics. Let us rather turn to some interesting information.

First some interesting quotes from Western philosophers and intellectuals about Islam. “Islam will rule the world one day, because in it there is a combination of knowledge and wisdom.” (Leo Tolstoy 1828-1910) “Until the effectiveness of Islam again, how many generations will suffer atrocities and life will be cut off, then one day the whole world will be attracted to it, on that day there will be Dilshad and on that day the world will be inhabited.” (Herbert Wells 1846-1946) “I understand that the Muslims did it through their own intelligence and awareness which the Jews could not do. In Islam it is the power that can lead to peace.” (Albert Einstein 1879-1959) “The faith which is upon us and this is better than us in the world, then it is Islam. If we open our hearts and minds for it, then it will be good for us.” (Huston Smith 1919) “Islam will be the ruling religion in Europe, but the famous city of Europe will become the Islamic State capital.” (Michael Nostradamus 1503-1566) “I read Islam and realized that it is to be the religion of all the world and all humanity. Islam will spread throughout Europe and in Europe the big thinkers of Islam will emerge. One day it will come that Islam will be the real stimulus of the world.” (Bertrand Russell 1872-1970) “Islam only talks about peace and reconciliation. Invite Christians to appreciate the faith of reform.” (Gosta Lobon 1841-1931) “The whole world will accept Islam religion one day and if it can not even accept the real name, it will accept it by the name of metaphor. West will accept Islam one day and Islam will be the religion of those who have studied in the world.” (Bernard Shaw 1856-1950) “We all have to accept Islam religion sooner or later. This is the real religion. If I am called a Muslim, I will not feel bad, I accept this right thing.” (Johann Geith 1749-1832)

In order to amicably settle the differences between two momins, follow the guidance given in Surah Hujuraat (49): “If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth lest you harm people unwittingly.” (49:6) “The believers are but a single brotherhood. So make peace and reconciliation between your two contending brothers. Fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” (49:10) “If two parties among the believers fall into a quarrel, make you peace between them. For Allah loves those who are fair and just.” (49:9) “Let not some men among you laugh at others. It may be that the latter are better than the former.” (49:11) “O you who believe! Don’t insult each other. Don’t call each other by offensive nicknames.” (49:11) “Avoid suspicion as much as possible, for suspicion in some cases is a sin.” (49:12) “And spy not on each other, nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother?” (49:12) The most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is he who is the most righteous of you.” (49:13)

Nowadays the tiny island of Qatar is being bullied by its big neighbours, yet these neighbours never united against Israel and its aggression against unarmed Palestinians! Unfortunately, Islamic history is full of infighting. Here are some facts about Qatar: The highest per capita income in the world – $ 146,000 per year; second in the world with the number of millionaires – approx. 30,000; first Arab country and fourth in the world for quality education; first Arab country and sixth in the world for quality of health; first Arab country and 20th in the world in the fight against corruption; second in the world for security and less risk of terrorism; first Arab country and 12th globally in the Global Competitiveness Report; ranked with best countries in indicators of unemployment; bank assets totaling QR 1,1 trillion; largest Arab bank with assets of about 520 billion Riyals; $ 300 billion Sovereign Fund involving 39 countries; significant shares in Europe’s largest banks – Barclays and Credit Suisse; owner of Harrods, London; annually spends $ 6 billion on scientific research; Qatar Airways fastest growing airline; Qatar Telecom operates in 17 countries with 107 million subscribers; own 28% of the towers in London; all citizens are treated abroad at state expense; the only country in the world where water and electricity are free; no taxes; Hamad Airport finest in the world; world’s first state in the spread of optic fiber; world’s first country in infrastructure indicators; first in the world in national savings; safest country against disaster risks; first Arab country for the spread of internet, food security index, human development, development of capital market and airlines; largest LPG production in the world with second largest gas transport fleet; owns 15 billion barrels of oil – enough for 40 years; owns 900 trillion cubic feet of gas – enough for 143 years; 4th globally in petrochemical production. One hopes that sanity prevails and the crisis between Qatar and other Arab countries is quickly resolved. Doha is a lovely place and the people are very friendly and hospitable. I have been there.
