Diagnosing the Impasse in the Middle East Peace Process Featuring Ghaith al-Omari and Ehud Yaari
Any negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis must be based on the framework of a permanent solution. Talks cannot start with a focus on an intermediate stage in the Quartet's 2003 Roadmap peace initiative -- e.g., a "stage 2½" involving steps such as a partial Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank and interim agreements on Jerusalem and refugees.

Peacebuilding amid Terrorism: Fragile Gains in Somalia By Andre Le Sage
On September 14, 2009, U.S. special forces killed Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, a senior leader of al-Qaeda's East Africa cell, near the town of Barawe on the coast of southern Somalia. Israel as an al-Qaeda Target: Sorting Rhetoric from Reality By Matthew Levitt
Since the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is perhaps the single most animating regional conflict for many Arabs and Muslims, its resonance provides al-Qaeda with a powerful rhetorical tool for radicalization, recruitment, and fundraising.
